Principal

I have two grown sons and 3 grandsons. My educational career began in New Mexico in 2004, then continued in Delaware in 2009, and finally to Alaska in 2015. I received my Bachelors in Elementary Education in 2004, Masters of Arts in Teaching in 2008, and received a Ph.D in Educational Leadership in 2022. I have been with BSSD since August 2015 and have worked as a Special Education teacher, Regular Education Teacher, and, now, Principal. The 1st year I taught a mixed grade level class (4th and 5th grades). The next 5 years I taught grades 6th-12th. Finally, I have had the honor of the principal position for the last two years. My students (both past and present) are the reason I teach.

Madelyn Lundblad

Elementary Teacher

Madelyn "Mady" Lundblad is an educator who grew up primarily in Wyoming and Colorado. She received the Outstanding Undergraduate award from the University of Wyoming, leaving with bachelor degrees in Psychology and Education and a minor in Music. An avid traveler, Mady hopes to see all seven continents one day and endeavors to make her classroom a space where all students can see the world. As a singer-songwriter and choral participant for the past 15 years, Mady believes in the power of music to unite people of all kinds and strengthen individuals in her classroom. Mady has previously and continues to teach at several outdoor camps and schools including those in New Hampshire, Wyoming, and Colorado. She believes that learning about the natural world is the best way to empower individuals in their own communities. Mady was hired by BSSD in 2021, and is currently teaching the 3rd-5th grade class at Kiŋikmiut School.

Hello and Mabuhay! I’m Maria RJ. I grew up in the southern part of the Philippines called Cagayan de Oro City. I graduated from Xavier University- Ateneo de Cagayan with the degree, Bachelor of Elementary Education major in English and Sped. Taught for 15 years in the Philippines and began my beautiful journey with BSSD last December 2020.
